The best hot chocolate is made from scratch. Here’s a simple recipe for getting started.
You’ll need: 2 cups milk (non-fat, low-fat, or whole), 4 teaspoons cocoa powder, 4 teaspoons sugar, 4 teaspoons water, and a half teaspoon pure vanilla extract. Heat milk in a saucepan until simmering. In a small bowl, combine cocoa powder, sugar, and whisk into a paste. Add simmering milk to the mixture until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla extract.
Add any flavor of marshmallow to the bottom of a mug. Pour hot cocoa on top of the marshmallow and enjoy. Makes 2-3 servings.
For spicing up traditional hot chocolate try adding one of the following liquors with a mug of hot chocolate and a chocolate-stuffed marshmallow:
1 oz. Chambord with a raspberry/dark chocolate marshmallow
1 oz. Peppermint Schnapps with a vanilla/milk chocolate marshmallow
1 oz. Cointreau with an orange/dark chocolate marshmallow
1 oz. Vodka with a chocolate/milk chocolate marshmallow
Marshmallows by Juju Z. Treat Company are delicious right out of the package. But the flavor really comes out when they’re slowly roasted or heated. Enjoy with s’mores, hot chocolate, coffee, or combined with desserts.
